I definitely want to go back and read it now though, because they seem like an interesting couple. I didn't read book 1, but I didn't feel lost at all without having read. They were there for each other when they really needed someone to understand and help. They had great sex, long and often, but what I liked was that there was a lot of substance to their relationship beyond the sex. Ruby had a sassy mouth and didn't take anyone's crap.
